Meet the Teachers Monday: Beth LaPierre

Up next for #meettheteachermonday for Yoga Lee!

Each week we will be featuring one of the fabulous members of our yoga teacher team so you can better get to know them and find connection on AND off the mat.

This week we are so excited to share more about your favorite yoga teacher— Beth!

Beth is a kind soul with a fabulous smile and relaxing and nourishing demeanor. She is a new momma to Baby Benny, a lover of pranayama and a Lee resident. Not only is she a 200 hour yoga teacher but she is a Doctor of Physical Therapy— just like owner, Kerry. Beth teaches feel good, feel grounded and feel strong weekly. Her classes are both nourishing and energizing.

Let’s dive into the interview…

TTell us about your first yoga class- did you love it? hate it? what kind of class was it?

I took a Bikram yoga class when I was 22 or 23 and did not enjoy it at all! The teacher was so mean and reprimanded me whenever I modified a pose. About a year later I went to a power yoga studio on the Cape and it was a much better experience!

What made you want to take your first 200 hour YTT?

I was having a hard time managing anxiety and depression. I happened to see an ad for an online yoga teacher training one day on social media. I knew I needed to do something for myself so I figured I'd give it a try. I'd been interested in taking a YTT for a long time but since I worked full time, I was never able to commit to an in-person training.

What made you want to teach yoga?

I had zero intentions of ever teaching yoga when I started my YTT. I initially just wanted to deepen my practice and improve my mental health. Somewhere along the way I just fell in love with teaching.

What is your FAVORITE class to teach at Yoga Lee? What is your favorite class to take at Yoga Lee?

It changes based on my mood but my favorite to teach and to take right now is Feel Good.

What is something that Yoga has taught you?

Understanding impermanence and becoming comfortable with the uncomfortable. Everything changes and shifts. Everything is temporary- the good, the bad, the neutral. It's a work in progress, but this way of thinking helps me get through difficult times while also appreciating the beautiful moments life has to offer.

What is something you wish you could tell every yoga student that walked into your class?

It still counts as yoga if you use props, modify or skip a pose.

What other forms of movement and exercise do you love?

Walking, hiking, strength training, dancing

If you aren't in a yoga class, where can you be found?

Hanging out with my 6 month old!

rop your favorite playlist/musicians/songs below.

My favorite music to play during class is chill electronic or ambient music depending on the vibes. DJ Taz Rashid, Sol Rising, and Tycho are some of my favorites.

Outside of yoga class, my playlists are all over the place- top 40, '90s/'00 throwbacks, indie.

Tell us one fun fact about you!

I was a magician's assistant one summer in college.

What's your favorite snack?

Sweet: Trader Joe's dark chocolate peanut butter cups.

Savory: chips and salsa

Last but not least, what's the best way to your heart? (you can be serious or silly here)

Snacks, a cozy blanket, and a cheesy rom-com
